Chakrata in 3 days

Day 1

Dehradun to Chakrata and Chilmiri Neck

Leave Dehradun in the morning and drive via Vikasnagar and Kalsi, about 3 to 3.5 hours. Stop at the Ashokan rock edict in Kalsi on the way. Check in, walk around the market, and go to Chilmiri Neck for sunset.

Day 2

Deoban and Tiger Falls

Start early for Deoban, when the mountain views are clearest. Return by late morning, have lunch, and spend the afternoon at Tiger Falls. Be back before dark.

Day 3

Budher caves, Kanasar and return

Drive towards Lokhandi and walk the 2-3 km trail to Moila Top and the Budher caves. If time allows, continue to the deodars of Kanasar. Start back for Dehradun by early afternoon to finish the hill road in daylight.

If you have only 2 days

  • Day 1: Reach Chakrata by noon, visit Tiger Falls in the afternoon and Chilmiri Neck at sunset.
  • Day 2: Go to Deoban early in the morning, then drive back to Dehradun after lunch.
  • Skip Budher and Kanasar; both need most of a day.

Chakrata Itinerary: FAQs

How many days are enough for Chakrata?

Two nights is comfortable. One night works if you only want Tiger Falls and a sunset.

Can Chakrata be done as a day trip from Dehradun?

It is possible but tiring: about 6 to 7 hours of driving in total, leaving little time to see anything beyond one or two spots.

Do I need my own vehicle?

It helps a lot. The sights are spread out and there is almost no local public transport to Deoban, Budher or Kanasar.
