Travel in Uttarakhand (travelinuttarakhand.com) is a free travel guide. We do not sell trips, take bookings or run accounts for visitors. The site is paid for by advertising. This page explains what information the site handles, which cookies are used and how you can control them.
Information you send us
If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message. They are stored in the website's database and sent to us by email so we can reply. We use them only to answer you or to correct a guide. We do not sell or share them, and we do not add you to any mailing list.
Your location on "Places near me"
The Places near me page asks your browser for your location only when you tap Use my location. The distance calculation happens inside your browser. Your location is not sent to us and is not stored. You can also pick a town instead of sharing your location.
Our Android app
The Travel in Uttarakhand app for Android shows the same public guides, stories and Bites as this website. It loads them from this website, so our hosting server sees the same standard request details described under Server logs below.
- No account, ads or analytics. The app has no login, shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking tools. It does not collect personal data.
- Location. If you tap Use my location in Places near me, the app asks Android for permission to use your approximate location. It is used only on your phone to sort places by distance, only while the app is open. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored. You can pick a place instead, and you can turn the permission off at any time in your phone's settings.
- Saved guides. Guides you save are kept only on your phone. The app also keeps a copy of pages and photos you have opened on your phone, so they work without internet. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes them.
- Links and maps. "Directions", "Open in Maps" and website links open Google Maps or your browser. Anything you do there is covered by that service's own policy.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We show ads through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and to other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings. You will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe).
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads or their cookies are used, and can change that choice at any time.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics, through Google's Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which guides are read, so we know what to update. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. We see only combined statistics and cannot identify you from them. You can block it with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Other outside services
- Weather. Guide pages show a live forecast from Open-Meteo. Your browser requests it directly, so Open-Meteo receives your IP address and the coordinates of the place you are reading about (not your own location).
- Maps. District pages show an embedded Google Map. When it loads, Google may receive your IP address and set its own cookies, as described in Google's privacy policy.
- Directions. "Directions" links open Google Maps in a new tab. Anything you do there is covered by Google's policy.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses:
- Necessary cookies that make the site work, for example when an editor is logged in or to remember your language choice.
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics, described above.
- Advertising cookies from Google and its advertising partners, described above.
- Map cookies that embedded Google Maps may set.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block all cookies, some parts of the site may not work as expected, and ads will not be personalised.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting server keeps standard logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) for security and to fix errors. These logs are not used to identify visitors.
Comments
Comments are switched off on this site, so we do not collect comment data.
Children
The site is meant for a general audience and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices
- Turn off personalised ads in Google's Ads Settings.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser.
- Ask us to delete any message you have sent through the contact form. Write to us through the contact page and we will remove it.
- In the Android app, turn off the location permission in your phone's settings, or remove saved guides by clearing the app's storage.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
