Waterfalls and walks
Tiger Falls
A single-drop waterfall of about 95 m (312 ft). Drive about 20 km and walk the last stretch down, or take the steep trail of roughly 5 km from town. Keep out of the pool when the flow is heavy.
Budher caves and Moila Top
From the forest rest house near Lokhandi, a 2-3 km trail climbs through forest to a wide meadow with a small temple and a pond. The limestone caves are close by; do not go deep inside without a local guide.
Forest walks from town
Quiet roads lined with deodar and oak start right from the market. Stay on public roads and out of marked army areas.
Viewpoints and forests
Deoban
A deodar forest at around 2,850 m, about 13-16 km from town. On a clear day the view takes in a long line of Himalayan peaks. The last stretch is a rough forest road, better in a high-clearance vehicle.
Chilmiri Neck
An open ridge top about 4-5 km from the market and the usual place to watch the sunset.
Kanasar
A forest clearing about 26-30 km away on the Tuni road with some very old, wide deodar trees and a small temple.
Ram Tal Horticultural Garden
A small garden with a pond and fruit trees about 12-15 km from town, good for a short stop with children.
Seasonal
Snow at Lokhandi and Deoban
After a fresh fall the higher ground above town turns white. Roads can close for a while, so ask locally before driving up.
Birdwatching
The forests around Deoban and the road to Kanasar are known among birders for Himalayan species. Carry binoculars and start early.
