Sahastradhara is a spring and picnic spot on the Baldi river, about 14-16 km north-east of the Clock Tower in Dehradun district. The name means 'thousand-fold spring'. Water seeps through the limestone cliffs above the river and drips from the rock in hundreds of thin streams, falling into shallow pools that smell faintly of sulphur.
People come to sit in the cool sulphur water, which many visitors believe is good for the skin, to look into the small dripping caves in the cliff, and to ride the ropeway to the hilltop for a view over the valley. It is one of the easiest half-day trips from Dehradun and gets very busy on summer weekends.
