One day: Tapkeshwar and Dehradun
Darshan at Tapkeshwar
Reach by 7 am for a calm darshan in the cave, see the Drona idols and the Hanuman statue, and sit by the river for a while.
Tea and snacks
Have chai and pakoras at the stalls by the gate, or breakfast in Garhi Cantt.
Forest Research Institute
Drive about 4-5 km to FRI to see the grand building and the forestry museums. It is usually closed on Sundays.
Robber's Cave
Wade the cool stream through the rock gorge at Robber's Cave (Guchhupani). Carry slippers and a change of clothes.
Back in the city
End with a walk around Paltan Bazaar and the Clock Tower, or coffee and bakery treats on Rajpur Road.
If you have only an hour or two
- Go straight to Tapkeshwar early in the morning; darshan and a look around take about an hour.
- On Mondays, festival days and in Shravan, allow an extra hour for queues.
- If you have time left, add FRI, which is only 10-15 minutes away.
