From Dehradun city
FRI is on Chakrata Road, about 7 km west of the Clock Tower, past Ballupur Chowk. The visitor entrance is on the main road; the ticket counter is at the gate.
App cabs and autos go there easily. Shared autos (Vikram) on the Clock Tower to Prem Nagar route pass the gate and are the cheapest option.
- Tell the driver 'FRI main gate' or 'Van Anusandhan Sansthan'.
- The walk from the gate to the main building is long; drive in if you have elderly people with you.
From Delhi
Drive or take a bus on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to Dehradun (about 210 km), then cross the city to Chakrata Road. By train, the Shatabdi and Vande Bharat reach Dehradun station, about 5-6 km from FRI.
- Leave early; city traffic in Dehradun is slow around 10 am and 5 pm.
By train or air
The nearest railway station is Dehradun (DDN), about 5-6 km away. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, about 32-35 km away on the other side of the city. Take a taxi or app cab from either.
