Route to Sankri at a glance
The road beyond Purola is narrow and slow. In winter, snow can block the last stretch to Sankri for a day or two; keep a buffer day.
From Dehradun by shared taxi or bus
Most trekkers start from Dehradun. Shared taxis (Bolero/Max) and buses leave early in the morning from the city towards Purola; from Purola, local buses and shared jeeps go on to Mori and Sankri.
Leave Dehradun by 6-7 am so you reach Purola well before evening; transport on the last stretch stops after dark.
- Fares are a guide and change by season; confirm on the day.
- Carry snacks and water; dhabas are few after Purola.
Private cab or trek pick-up
Most trek operators run a shared pick-up from Dehradun railway station early in the morning. A private Bolero or similar for the whole group costs much more but lets you stop on the way.
- Take a motion-sickness tablet if you get carsick; the road has many bends.
From Delhi
Take an overnight train or bus to Dehradun (about 250 km), then continue to Sankri the same morning. The Jolly Grant airport is about 220 km from Sankri.
