The Dayara Bugyal trail runs through forest land managed by the Uttarkashi forest division. Every trekker needs a forest entry and camping permit. Registered operators arrange it for their groups and usually include the fee in the package.
To protect the fragile meadow, the authorities have restricted overnight camping on the bugyal itself in recent years, following court directions on high-altitude meadows in Uttarakhand. Groups camp at designated sites lower down, such as Gui, Gidara or Barnala, and walk up to the meadow for the day. Ask your operator where they camp.
